Looking to grow your Instagram account and wondering when the best times to post are? Well you’re in luck. I myself have been growing Instagram accounts for years and can lend my experience on not only when, but also how often to post on Instagram. If you’re interested in getting more likes, comments, shares and followers, then stick around as I share a few ways that you can grow your Instagram account in no time.
When it comes to what time to post, the truest answer is that it depends. I know, I know… that’s not what you wanted to hear but hear me out. Unless you’re an entirely local business, working only with potential clients in the neighbouring areas, you should be posting content that’s applicable to people all over the world (at least those that speak the same language), meaning that there will be no magical time slot that you can catch with your latest selfie.
That being said though I highly recommend that you should test as many different post times, as often as you can, and analyse the results using Instagram’s native insights feature. Provided you have either a business or creator account for your Instagram profile, you will have the option to analyse your latest posts and stories using insights, which can even tell you when your audience is most active – by the day, and by the hour. After a while you’ll be able to see when your audience is most receptive to your content, and you can plan any future posts accordingly.
Alternatively, if you’re purely a local business and only want to attract people in your local area, then it goes without saying that you shouldn’t be posting at 2am, unless you want to catch the attention of the slurring drunk who’s dribbling over his kebab on a Sunday morning. You should start by posting at times that people are likely to be checking their phones, this could be when they first wake up, when they’re on the bus to work, during their lunch, when they finish work or in the evening when they’re lying in bed. As mentioned previously, it’s worth testing as many different post times as possible and analysing the results.
How often should you post on Instagram?
If you’ve read any of my other Instagram-related posts, then you’ll also know that I highly recommend posting as often as you can. I myself post up to 3 times a day on some of my accounts, with great results. This feeds on my previous point, that you can’t always catch people at the right time with a single post, that’s why it’s always preferable if you can stagger your posts over the day to increase your chances of catching them at the right time. With my account that’s posting three times a day, it’s gaining up to 1,000 new followers a day because of this method!
Of course though it’s not all about quantity, as quality plays a huge part in the potential growth of your account, and you shouldn’t be posting left, right and centre without any regard for the standard of your content. Most people reading this won’t have the time to produce that much content anyway, at least not without burning themselves out, therefore I would suggest that you focus on creating at least one decent post every other day and work from there. If you can manage to create more than one post – then great – create a post every day, then two a day and so on.
Oh, and don’t worry about posting ‘too often’. Instagram tends to show you content from people that you like to follow already, so it’s more than likely that you won’t mind seeing more from them right? If anyone does grow tired of your content then they’ve always got the option of unfollowing you – which is a good thing. Ermm… what did he say? You heard correct, and I’ll tell you why. Someone unfollowing you is a good thing because it means that they were never interested in buying from you anyway, so you shouldn’t waste your time & effort on them when it comes to social media, you should instead focus on engaging with people who actually look forward to your posts!

How to access Instagram Insights
Just in case you weren’t aware of how to check your Instagram analytics, then you’ll want to set your Instagram account up as a Business Account. To do this you will need to go into the Instagram app (on mobile), click on your profile picture in the bottom right corner, click on the triple bar icon (‘≡’) at the top right, and then click on Settings, then Account.
From there you will see an option at the bottom saying ‘Switch to Business Account’. Once you have a Business Account, you can find your Instagram Insights by going back to the beginning and clicking on that triple bar icon (‘≡’) again, before clicking on Insights.
Instagram Insights will show you which of your posts & stories have been performing the best, how many impressions and followers your account is getting, as well as information of where your followers are coming from. Spending some time to review this information regularly can certainly help you to improve and create more great content, as well as learning when to post it all going forward.
The reality is that you want to be posting as much as possible, without affecting the quality of your content. You should start by posting at different times of the day, at least every other day, for the first two weeks to understand when you’re getting the most engagement. Studying your Instagram Analytics can further clarify when your audience is most active. Post, Learn, Repeat.
